Art Piece: Succession
Name of Artist: Doug Dumais
Description of Art Piece: inkjet print on archival paper, 81.3 x 66.0 cm (HxW) framed
April’s featured piece is a photograph from Charlottetown based artist, Doug Dumais. “Though Succession, appears to be a. root system, the image is heavily edited and, upon closer inspection, reveals that several roots twist and curl over copies of themselves. The repetitions or visual “rhymes” that appear in the image are meant to remind viewers of the constructed nature of photographs and evoke, on a micro-level, the repetitive patterns in nature that occur on a scale that can only be measured in centuries or millennia,” writes Dumais.
About the Art Lotto
The Artwork available each month in the Art Lotto is curated and purchased by the Director of the Art Gallery at Confederation Centre of the Arts. The artwork that will be featured is by local Island artists
of varying backgrounds and mediums. The artwork is purchased, in advance from the artist at the regular retail price, to help support our local arts during these uncertain times.
