Update on Cyber Security Incident

February 11, 2022 – Confederation Centre of the Arts continues to work with industry experts to determine the full scope of a cyber-attack that took place on January 25. The Centre has established that the incident was a ransomware attack, which resulted in the encryption of files on some of the Centre’s servers.

“When the incident was discovered, the Centre promptly shut down all its systems to assess the scope of the issue,” says Confederation Centre CEO Steve Bellamy. “We immediately engaged a team of experts to help us navigate the situation.”

That work is ongoing, but more details can now be confirmed. The Centre is pleased to report that some of its primary systems and services were not affected by the incident, including its ticket sales and donation system, staff emails, website, and payroll system. This allows the Centre to resume many of its regular operations.

The investigation will determine what information on the servers was affected, and it is a priority to determine the degree to which any personal information was accessed. The Centre will reach out directly to anyone who may have been affected once that determination is made.

The Centre is simultaneously reviewing its entire IT infrastructure and making changes recommended by industry experts.

“We are grateful for the continued patience of our patrons and staff, and we expect to have more information soon,” says Bellamy.

Further updates will be provided as they become available. Anyone with questions or concerns can email [email protected].

What are Relaxed Performances?

Sometimes referred to as sensory-friendly experiences, Relaxed Performances give the opportunity for those with various sensitivities towards sensory stimuli to experience and enjoy live theatre.

These performances will be designed in a way to be more comfortable for audience members who may experience anxiety or are not comfortable with some aspects of a traditional theatre setting. This can include people on the Autism Spectrum and their families; those with sensory and communicative disorders or learning disabilities; people with Tourette’s syndrome; someone who might need to move often due to chronic pain or to use the facilities; or even parents with toddlers.
