– Toronto’s Choir! Choir! Choir! will co-present the show with proceeds going to the United Way –

October 6, 2022 – The aftermath of Hurricane Fiona has left Atlantic Canadians, and many organizations and businesses, in need of major support. To help with recovery efforts, Confederation Centre of the Arts, in partnership with Choir! Choir! Choir! and the United Way of Prince Edward Island, is presenting a community-centric night of music.

Sweet Relief: A Fiona Fundraiser Sing-Along will feature national phenomenon Choir! Choir! Choir!, a Toronto-based singing group led by creative directors Nobu Adilman and Daveed Goldman. The duo takes a non-traditional approach where the audience becomes the choir, creating an experience that is equal parts singing, comedy, and community-building. Founded in 2011, Choir! Choir! Choir! has amassed tens of millions of video views online from a dedicated and passionate community of singers and a thriving international fan base. The group exists to celebrate music and push boundaries, offering therapeutic benefits with the ultimate side effect: a powerful community.

“Confederation Centre of the Arts is grateful for the community we belong to, and for the many people who have provided aid after Fiona,” says Centre CEO Steve Bellamy. “We are thrilled to host this event and grateful to have Choir! Choir! Choir! bringing their talents here.”

Nobu Adilman of Choir! Choir! Choir! has a special connection to Atlantic Canada. “Every summer since I was a little kid, my family would pack up the car, escape Toronto and make the long drive to Prince Edward Island,” he says. “The Maritimes has given me so much and I felt helpless watching the devastation of Fiona from the safety of my home in Toronto. But now we have found a way to help.”

Andrea MacDonald, CEO of the United Way of PEI, noted that the concert is just what the community needs in that it will help with recovery efforts, and restore a sense of shared mission. “There is a real desire in the community to come together to rebuild. The hurricane has reminded us that we are stronger united, and it will also be so good for all of us to join our voices and be united by song.”

The event is scheduled for Monday, October 17 at 7:30 p.m. and will include special guests to be announced in the coming days. Funds raised will be given to the United Way of Prince Edward Island and distributed to chapters across Atlantic Canada that are racing to address the urgent needs of affected communities. Tickets to attend at the Centre’s Sobey Family Theatre are $20 (plus fees and tax), and patrons can make an additional donation upon checkout. An online silent auction occur in conjunction with the event, which will also be livestreamed.

“Maritimers are famously resilient and resourceful,” adds Adilman. “We are proud to do what we can to help in the way we know best, a beautiful joyful fun night of singing with friends and strangers alike.”
