Confederation Centre of the Arts welcomes new Director of Arts Education and Heritage

April 14, 2022 – CEO Steve Bellamy and Confederation Centre of the Arts are pleased to welcome Francesca Perez to the senior management group as the Centre’s new Director of Arts Education and Heritage.

Perez is a non-profit arts administrator and classically trained musician with over 10 years of progressively senior administrative roles in the cultural sector. She has worked with arts organizations from Vancouver, BC to Charlottetown, PE in fundraising, marketing, and producing roles. Recent collaborators include The River Clyde Pageant, The National Ballet of Canada, and Tafelmusik.

“We are thrilled to have Francesca join Confederation Centre of the Arts,” says Bellamy. “She will provide leadership to all arts education and heritage programming during an exciting period of growth at the Centre.”

As an arts administrator, Perez has focused on imagining new, community-centric ways of supporting, presenting, and working in the arts. She is a passionate advocate for making art accessible to anyone who wants to enjoy it and is committed to moving the dial on equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives. This work is informed by her lived experience as an immigrant to Canada who was able to adapt and thrive thanks to arts programs in the public school system.

After visiting Prince Edward Island regularly for nearly 20 years, she moved to Charlottetown from Toronto in 2021 with her family.

What are Relaxed Performances?

Sometimes referred to as sensory-friendly experiences, Relaxed Performances give the opportunity for those with various sensitivities towards sensory stimuli to experience and enjoy live theatre.

These performances will be designed in a way to be more comfortable for audience members who may experience anxiety or are not comfortable with some aspects of a traditional theatre setting. This can include people on the Autism Spectrum and their families; those with sensory and communicative disorders or learning disabilities; people with Tourette’s syndrome; someone who might need to move often due to chronic pain or to use the facilities; or even parents with toddlers.
