February 28, 2024 – Three new board members were recently appointed to the national board of directors at Confederation Centre of the Arts.

The additions include Katie Arsenault of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island; Patricia Bovey of Winnipeg, Manitoba; and Donna McDougall of Hudson, Québec.

“Hailing from three different provinces, these new directors are community builders with a wealth of experience in a variety of industries,” says board chair Robert Sear. “They all share a love of arts and culture, and we are very pleased to welcome them to the Centre.”

Centre CEO Steve Bellamy adds, “It is critical that the governing voices of the Centre represent the diverse perspectives of Canada and help us build relationships across the country. As the Centre embarks on an exciting period of growth, we are committed to being a place where Canada connects – as a cultural convenor, a forum for dialogue on an evolving Canada, and a national stage for thriving artistic expression.”

What are Relaxed Performances?

Sometimes referred to as sensory-friendly experiences, Relaxed Performances give the opportunity for those with various sensitivities towards sensory stimuli to experience and enjoy live theatre.

These performances will be designed in a way to be more comfortable for audience members who may experience anxiety or are not comfortable with some aspects of a traditional theatre setting. This can include people on the Autism Spectrum and their families; those with sensory and communicative disorders or learning disabilities; people with Tourette’s syndrome; someone who might need to move often due to chronic pain or to use the facilities; or even parents with toddlers.
