“It’s very alive!”: SOCAN Award-winners Milk & Bone Hit The Mack

Milk & Bone, a pop duo from Montreal, Quebec, is made up of Laurence Lafond-Beaulne and Camille Poliquin. The two women have performed at Osheaga and across the world, including opening for Lorde and Cyndi Lauper. This week they bring their electro-pop, dream music to Charlottetown, with a show that promises to be dynamic and engaging.

“We navigate intimates moments, darker moments, and then we have some more up tempo moments that we dance to,” explains Lafond-Beaulne. “It’s very alive!”

The group is coming off tours in the States and Europe, as well as the West Coast of Canada. This upcoming tour is their first time performing throughout the East Coast, including here on P.E.I..

Just to meet the crowd, to see new faces and to meet the people who have been writing to us  — we’re excited to meet them and perform for them,” says Lafond-Beaulne.

Exploring their Sophomore Album

Coming off the success of their critically-acclaimed break-out recording, Little Mourning, their sophomore album, Deception Bay is a more confident sound.

We were much freer in the creative process. We wanted to take things to another level,” offers Lafond-Beaulne.

The result is reflected in their eclectic stage performance; there is a combination of intimacy and ‘dance-ability’ to the songs. This makes sense, considering where the album was recorded. The group left Montreal and went to a cabin in the woods to write the foundations for their songs, with nothing more than a synthesizer. Lafond-Beaulne adds:

“When we’re in the woods and that’s all we have to do, it’s very easy to do deep work and it was amazing to create it in that environment.”

What are Relaxed Performances?

Sometimes referred to as sensory-friendly experiences, Relaxed Performances give the opportunity for those with various sensitivities towards sensory stimuli to experience and enjoy live theatre.

These performances will be designed in a way to be more comfortable for audience members who may experience anxiety or are not comfortable with some aspects of a traditional theatre setting. This can include people on the Autism Spectrum and their families; those with sensory and communicative disorders or learning disabilities; people with Tourette’s syndrome; someone who might need to move often due to chronic pain or to use the facilities; or even parents with toddlers.
