Confederation Centre is Closed to the Public until Further Notice
–All programing—up until April 12—is cancelled or postponed-
On Sunday March 15, P.E.I.’s Chief Public Health Officer provided a new set of recommendations for the public in relation to COVID-19 (coronavirus). Dr. Morrison’s recommendations included:
- Stopping all non-essential travel outside Canada
- Self-isolating for 14 days following all international travel, including to the U.S.
- The closure of all public schools and child care centres until April 6
In addition, the public is requested to reconsider attending social gatherings where a distance of two metres cannot be maintained.
“Confederation Centre is closely monitoring this evolving situation and our primary concern is the safety, health, and well-being of our staff, our artists and visitors to our facility,” says CEO Steve Bellamy. ‘We would like to assure Islanders and visitors that we will continue to take the necessary precautions and follow the recommendations of the Island’s Chief Public Health Office as it relates to our administration and operations.”
With that in mind, as of Tuesday, March 17 and until further notice, Confederation Centre will be closing all public areas within the facility, including: the Art Gallery (CCAG), The Showcase, The Homburg Theatre, The Mack, the Confederation Chamber Replica, the concourse, and all rental facilities.
All programming that was scheduled up until April 12, 2020 is cancelled or postponed until a later date. This includes:
- Soup’Art (March 20)
- Rose Cousins (March 21)
- Legends of Motown (March 27)
- Catherine MacLellan (March 28)
- Scottish Fiddle Festival (April 3)
- PD Day Art Camps (April 3)
- Dance Umbrella: Ahoy! (April 4)
- Choral Music: Voices of Spring (April 5)
- Choral Music on a Holy Day (April 10)
- All CCAG exhibitions
- dance umbrella classes
- Choral Music classes
In addition, there are events beyond April 12 that have been cancelled. They include:
- Classic Albums Live: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (April 14)
- Jesse Cook (April 16)
- Basia Bulat (April 17)
- PEI Symphony Orchestra (April 19)
- Abbamania (April 24)
- Pinch Penny Fair (April 25)
- Ian Sherwood (April 25)
The Centre team is also discussing possible changes to the start date of The 2020 Charlottetown Festival season. An update will be provided on those discussions before the end of the week.

As a charity organization, the Centre appeals for patrons’ ongoing support during this time of crisis and that patrons consider donating the value of their ticket(s) back to the organization for a charitable donation receipt. Other options include the Centre issuing a credit to a patron account, which will not expire and will be valid on any upcoming Confederation Centre shows.
