From Carnegie Hall To Confederation Centre: World-Renowned Rolston String Quartet Is Coming To Charlottetown

The Rolston String Quartet is LIVE @ the Centre, February 21

The Rolston String Quartet is bringing a storm of classical music to the Mack next Thursday, February 21 for Sobeys LIVE @ the Centre. After playing sold-out shows across the world, this Canadian group is ready to make their Island debut. A storm of virtuosic perfection awaits!

The Rolston String Quartet was formed more than five years ago and is made up former students of The Glenn Gould School in Toronto. The quartet was recently featured on CBC’s list of the hottest classical acts under 30 and have received the prestigious Cleveland Quartet Award from Chamber Music America, just to name a few accomplishments.

“All of this has been exhilarating–it’s been a dream come true,” says Jonathan Lo, cellist with the Quartet. “It’s something we couldn’t have imagined when we first got together and we’re blessed to continue performing together.”

Just this past December, the Rolston String Quartet played a sold-out show at Carnegie Hall in New York City and are performing at London’s Wigmore Hall later this year. The group have toured extensively through Europe, Canada, the U.S. and Israel, performing at such venues as the Smithsonian, Kennedy Centre, and Austria’s Esterhazy Palace. The Quartet also began recording their first album last month before beginning a North America-wide tour, including their first ever performance on Prince Edward Island.

“It should be an interesting mix of music, including a program bookended by classics,” adds Lo, when asked about their upcoming live show. “Plus, we’ll be performing Murray Schafer’s ‘Waves’, which is perfect for the Maritimes. It’s very evocative of the sights and sounds of the area.”

The Rolston String Quartet performs at the Mack on February 21 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $26, plus fees and taxes, and are available at the door, at Confederation Centre’s box office, online at confederationcentre.com, or via phone at 902-566-1267 (toll free at 1-800-565-0278.)

What are Relaxed Performances?

Sometimes referred to as sensory-friendly experiences, Relaxed Performances give the opportunity for those with various sensitivities towards sensory stimuli to experience and enjoy live theatre.

These performances will be designed in a way to be more comfortable for audience members who may experience anxiety or are not comfortable with some aspects of a traditional theatre setting. This can include people on the Autism Spectrum and their families; those with sensory and communicative disorders or learning disabilities; people with Tourette’s syndrome; someone who might need to move often due to chronic pain or to use the facilities; or even parents with toddlers.
