The Centre for All Canadians

Deadline Extended for Video Submissions for The 2020 TD Confederation Centre Young Company

Confederation Centre of the Arts has extended its deadline for video submissions to audition for the TD Young Company. The new deadline is Sunday January 19, 2020.

The Centre invites young people from across the country, between the ages of 18 – 30, to apply to be a part of this incredible group of young storytellers. Whether these stories come from spoken word, through song or dance, are traditional or modern—the Centre is looking for voices of all backgrounds to come together on PEI for a fantastic summer experience in the arts.

Submissions are welcome from people of all backgrounds, cultures, genders, and identities, with varying degrees of experience. Potential applicants are reminded that if they play a musical instrument, or speak languages other than English, to showcase this in the video audition. Traditional songs, dances, and speeches are welcomed and encouraged.

Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada. Full details for applications and video submissions can be found at www.confederationcentre.com/auditions .

Rehearsals for the TD Young Company begin June 8, 2020 and this full-time program runs through August 15. The TD Confederation Centre Young Company is a summer training programme, coinciding with The Charlottetown Festival.

For more than 25 years, the troupe has come from across Canada each summer to receive training at the Centre covering all aspects of life in performance—from voice to dance to acting to group creation, all led by top theatre professionals. ‘YoCo’, as it is affectionately known, also performs an original musical production, created during the rehearsal process. This show is performed, free of charge, six days-a-week, in the Confederation Centre amphitheatre.

What are Relaxed Performances?

Sometimes referred to as sensory-friendly experiences, Relaxed Performances give the opportunity for those with various sensitivities towards sensory stimuli to experience and enjoy live theatre.

These performances will be designed in a way to be more comfortable for audience members who may experience anxiety or are not comfortable with some aspects of a traditional theatre setting. This can include people on the Autism Spectrum and their families; those with sensory and communicative disorders or learning disabilities; people with Tourette’s syndrome; someone who might need to move often due to chronic pain or to use the facilities; or even parents with toddlers.
