Vantage Points features a selection of paintings and drawings from the Gallery's collection comparing observed historical experience of Prince Edward Island with contemporary works re-imagining places and events.
Can works of art in the collection of the Confederation Centre Art Gallery provide a glimpse of social, political, or economic activity in this smallest of Canadian provinces? Can we see the “Garden of the Gulf” more clearly by juxtaposing images of place from many decades? These landscapes ranging from documentary to picturesque, conceptual to folk in style, will allow new comparisons from the vantage points of many artists projects connected to Prince Edward Island and its history. We may or may not see patterns emerging in these clusters of paintings, photographs, and drawings, but we may find reasons for new conversations within the artist’s research, enterprise or reimagining of places and events in Island history.
