A selection of works from the Confederation Centre Art Gallery collection including pieces by Robert Youds and Brenda Pelkey in the Fred S. and Ogden Martin Concourse Gallery.

These works of art from the Art Gallery collection are linked by an interest in light, colour, surface effects, and materials. Included are a 1965 painted construction by Zbigniew Blazeje; a light-box by Hank Bull; a print on stainless steel by Sarah Gersovitz; a neon wall-work by André Fournelle; four sculptures by Robert Youds that “plug-in” and radiate coloured light; a photograph of a nightclub by Brenda Pelkey; a textile work by Helen Frances Gregor which has anodized aluminum bars woven into the hanging; and a 2010 aerial photograph by Edward Burtynsky of an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

These artworks remind us of the ongoing fascination artist’s have with colour and light in abstract as well as representational works of art in many media.

The exhibition is curated by Kevin Rice.

What are Relaxed Performances?

Sometimes referred to as sensory-friendly experiences, Relaxed Performances give the opportunity for those with various sensitivities towards sensory stimuli to experience and enjoy live theatre.

These performances will be designed in a way to be more comfortable for audience members who may experience anxiety or are not comfortable with some aspects of a traditional theatre setting. This can include people on the Autism Spectrum and their families; those with sensory and communicative disorders or learning disabilities; people with Tourette’s syndrome; someone who might need to move often due to chronic pain or to use the facilities; or even parents with toddlers.
