This exhibition introduces the work of the Winnipeg-based Tlicho Dene interdisciplinary artist Casey Koyczan. Koyczan works at the intersection of audio and visual experience, imaginatively reshaping the architectural spaces of the gallery.

This multimedia work explores the relationship between the digital world and our perceptions of reality by imaginatively reshaping the architectural spaces of the gallery.

The installation communicates a sense of mystery and calmness through the audio-visual harmonization of beauty and chaos created with digitally generated physics experiments that evoke organic objects, natural elements, and organisms in the real world. They are simplistic forms that suggest complex narratives and meanings through colour, movement, and personal interpretation.

The dual-channel projections are accompanied by two audio soundscapes  constructed with the Foley post-production method; they are separate, but work together in an ever-changing progression of sound. The blend of audio and colour will never be the same at any given moment, as each media piece is set to loop at different time frames.

What are Relaxed Performances?

Sometimes referred to as sensory-friendly experiences, Relaxed Performances give the opportunity for those with various sensitivities towards sensory stimuli to experience and enjoy live theatre.

These performances will be designed in a way to be more comfortable for audience members who may experience anxiety or are not comfortable with some aspects of a traditional theatre setting. This can include people on the Autism Spectrum and their families; those with sensory and communicative disorders or learning disabilities; people with Tourette’s syndrome; someone who might need to move often due to chronic pain or to use the facilities; or even parents with toddlers.
