The Centre for All Canadians

Fall Message from the CEO

Gwe, Bonjour, and Welcome to Confederation Centre of the Arts!

After an exciting summer of engaging shows and programs, we are thrilled to present the fall 2019/winter 2020 lineup for Sobeys LIVE @ the Centre! Join us for inspiring concerts from Steven Page, Matt Andersen, George Canyon, Rose Cousins, Classic Albums Live doing CCR and Tom Petty, or the beautiful performances by Choral Music and dance umbrella – we hope you’ll come for your favourites, and we encourage you to try out something new!

This fall, we continue to connect with the community through high quality arts education and heritage programming. After 30 years dance umbrella continues to build skills, self-confidence, and creativity in thousands of young people. Our choirs, visual art courses, and the School of Performing Arts partnership with Holland College have all kicked off their new seasons, and on Friday November 1 we present Senator Murray Sinclair with the 2019 Symons Medal.

The Confederation Centre Art Gallery features Predicaments: Brian Burke, a Retrospective as a major exhibition this fall and winter. We are also proud to present new work by Tyler Los-Jones: Look slowly and all that moves, as well as a compelling video installation by an exciting, emerging Island artist, Lisa Theriault: Off-Season. Experience it all and be inspired!

We couldn’t offer any of these rich programs without the support of many. We’ve launched a new membership program called Get Centre’d, with new benefits for those who join our family of supporters and enable the arts education, heritage, gallery, and theatre programs which contribute so much to the community!

It is truly the people that make Confederation Centre of the Arts such a positive cultural and economic contributor. This year we’ve welcomed several new faces to the Centre’s team and I want to thank each of them for their dedication and commitment. We are a vibrant community – artists, musicians, actors, dancers, teachers, technicians, staff, crew, and audiences alike – sharing stories and connecting through the arts! Come join us!

See you at the Centre!

What are Relaxed Performances?

Sometimes referred to as sensory-friendly experiences, Relaxed Performances give the opportunity for those with various sensitivities towards sensory stimuli to experience and enjoy live theatre.

These performances will be designed in a way to be more comfortable for audience members who may experience anxiety or are not comfortable with some aspects of a traditional theatre setting. This can include people on the Autism Spectrum and their families; those with sensory and communicative disorders or learning disabilities; people with Tourette’s syndrome; someone who might need to move often due to chronic pain or to use the facilities; or even parents with toddlers.
